For an international early-stage startup developing a real-time interactive game show platform, we are seeking a Senior Backend Developer (m/f/d). The product is currently in the beta phase with weekly live test shows. The team consists of around 13 professionals and creators, based across Europe and the USA.
The core challenge: architecting and scaling a real-time multiplayer system capable of supporting tens of thousands of concurrent users. You will work in a small, senior, fast-moving environment where ownership, initiative, and a passion for building innovative products matter.
Your Responsibilities
Design, build, and scale high-performance backend systems for real-time multiplayer environments, handling up to 100k concurrent users
Ensure low-latency performance, stability, and resilience across distributed systems
Optimize performance, debug complex issues, and manage cloud infrastructure (Azure or AWS)
Participate in 2-week sprints, daily stand-ups, and weekly live test sessions
Your Profile
7–10+ years of experience in high-performance backend development (.NET, Rust, Go, Java)
Proven experience designing, building, and scaling high-performance backend systems for real-time multiplayer environments, handling up to 100k concurrent users
Strong background in large-scale concurrent systems and cloud infrastructure (Azure or AWS)
Proficient with NoSQL databases, Redis, debugging, and performance optimization
Startup experience is a big plus
Nice-to-have: Unity, SignalR, Azure DevOps, CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes
Hands-on, proactive, ownership-driven mindset

Full-time employment or freelance option; salary up to 86,000 € (EUR) / freelance equivalent ~41 €/hour, with potential equity
100% remote (Europe preferred; max. 4–5h from CET)
